Good health is something that many of us take for granted. Obviously, getting sick isn't fun, but it can and does happen, usually at the most inopportune times. One of the most common illnesses, other than simple head colds, is strep throat. Being hit with strep can make you feel as if the back of your mouth all the way down to your lungs and stomach is one fire. The condition is caused by Streptococcus A bacteria. Symptoms include redness and white spots on the throat, swelling of the lymph nodes, along with severe pain. One of the first things you should do if you suspect you might have it is to call your doctor. He or she can perform a quick test to make sure it's strep versus some other type of illness. Unfortunately if it is a viral infection, not much can be done. However, if it is bacterial, your doctor might have you do a round of antibiotics. The good thing is that when taken correctly, it often will relieve most of the symptoms within a day or two. Getting treated as early is possible is the best course of action, as it can turn serious if ignored. It is also very contagious and can spread quickly among children and adults, especially in the beginning stages.
Although there's no doubt that this condition is beyond uncomfortable, there are ways to sooth the painful sensations. First of all, getting enough rest is imperative. Curl up under some blankets and get some sleep. Drinking and eating cold items such as ice cream or ice water might help. Maybe alternate cold beverages with hot tea mixed with honey, which can be very soothing. Drinking fluids and staying hydrated is very important while being sick. Steam from a shower could turn out to be beneficial, as well as a rub that clears the sinuses. Although this problem can be a nuisance, it is quite common and clears up for most. If there are more severe complications, such as high fever a visit to the hospital is a must. Overcoming it builds the internal immune system and makes it stronger. If you take all of the prescribed medicine and get plenty of good rest, you will usually find yourself back to normal very quickly.
